The Cairn University baseball team will be back in action in both non-conference and conference play after having their 2020 season cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
With the CSAC announcement affirming the conference's intent to move forward with formal competitive seasons for spring sports, the Highlanders are set for a traditional season. Cairn enters the 2021 season under new leadership with interim head coach
Jeremy Hefele. Coach Hefele had this to say about the upcoming season:
"To the guys, having this season means getting back what they lost so suddenly last year. This past Spring was the first time in all of our lives that we were not able to play baseball which affected us all in different ways. All the team wants is a chance to compete and we are very thankful that the CSAC granted us that opportunity. The team has been waiting for this for just about a year now so we know everyone is itching to get back on the field. As coaches, we are glad we can tell our team with certainty that we will be playing this season. I think we all have a newfound appreciation for the opportunity to play baseball this Spring."
Â
To open the 2021 season, the Highlanders will travel to Maryville, Tennessee to take on the Scots of Maryville College in a three game series on Saturday, February 20th and Sunday, February 21st.Â
