LAX: Highlanders Strike Early but Can’t Hold Off Aggies

Langhorne, PA- The Highlanders hosted the Aggies from Delaware Valley University. What started as a closely knit competition turned into a tough fourth quarter blowout, 19-6.

The first quarter started out with an early push from DelVal (1-8, 0-1 MAC) as they came off with three shots in quick succession but failed to hit the net. Cairn (2-6, 0-1 United East) gave the ball over on their first possession, leading to the opening goal from the Aggies. Their lead didn't last long though as junior midfielder Colin Welsh (Mount Laurel, / NJ King's Christian) scored off an assist from senior forward Cole Heffler (Eldersburg, MD / Central Maryland Christian) to tie it up at 1-1. The Aggies would then go on a streak, getting 3 straight to end the quarter 4-1.

The second quarter started off well for the Aggies, applying constant pressure, they got off 4 shots within the first 2 minutes, but Cairn's defense was rock solid, keeping them out of the net until 8:48 when DelVal broke through, extending their lead to 4 goals. Managing to sneak a 6th goal in less than a minute later. Senior midfielder/FO Adain Holliday (New York, NY / Urban Assembly Maker Academy) got one back for the Highlanders, but the celebrations soon got quiet as the Aggies scored again to make it 8-2 heading into halftime.

The third started off in the Aggies favor but quickly got turned around after the opening goal. Holliday picked up two more unassisted goals. The Aggies managed to match it, but Heffler took a man up opportunity and converted it into a goal. The Highlanders found the net for a fourth time in the quarter after senior goalkeeper Daniel Lafferty (Clifton, VA / Trinity Christian) sent a long ball up to sophomore midfielder Joshua Wong (Newtown, PA / Homeschool) who took it the rest of the way, making the score 11-6 to end the quarter.

The Fourth quarter was just relentless attacking from the Aggies who found the net eight times and just didn't slow down, as the final score was 19-6 to end the game.

Holliday had a ball on faceoffs, going 20-22 while adding his 3 goals and 18 ground balls. Lafferty recorded his first career assist and Heffler knocked up two more points on the night.

The Highlanders get a break before remaining at home to host Pitt Bradford in a conference matchup next Saturday the 11th at 5pm.
