MSOC: Highlanders Score 12 Goals in WIn Over PSU-Hazleton

Langhorne, PA - While defense was the highlight of the previous match against Arcadia, Cairn (1-1-1, 0-0 United East) displayed their offensive prowess in this afternoon's 12-0 win over Penn State-Hazleton (0-1, 0-0 PSUAC).

The 12 goals, scored by 8 different Highlanders, set the Men's Soccer record for goals in a single game. Cairn's attack started early, resulting in a 1-0 lead 2:48 into the match. Senior forward Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool) extended the early lead with two goals in the span of ten minutes; the first (15') assisted by sophomore Nathan Babyak (Albertville, France / Mechanicsburg) and the second (25') assisted by sophomore Fah Diomande (Ermont, France / Pocono Mountain West). Thirty seconds after Alijah Miller's goal to make the score 3-0, junior Euan Silva (Glenside, PA / Valley Forge) scored his first goal of the season to make the score 4-0 in favor of the Highlanders. A fifth goal by Cairn would give the home team a 5-0 lead at the break.

The Highlanders wasted no time getting in the scoring column again in the second period, as they netted four goals in the first fifteen minutes of the second period. Freshman David Barkman (Wilmington, NC) made his first collegiate goal (48'), Nathan Babyak connected on his first goal of the season (51'), Elijah Ejiofor recorded his second goal of the season (56'), and sophomore defender Akiel Warfield (Brandywine, MD / Gwynn Park) got in the action with his first collegiate goal on a penalty kick (59'). After that flurry of scoring to open the period, the Highlanders led 9-0. Before the night was over, Cairn would go on to score three more goals, including two from sophomore midfielder Vincente Martinez-Pavez (Pichilemu, Chile / Lower Dauphin) in the 75th and 83rd minute. Junior forward Caleb Booker (Malang, Indonesia / International Community School) capped the match off with an 89th minute goal to end the game in a 12-0 win for Cairn. Cairn dominated the stat sheet, recording 32 shot attempts to PSU Hazleton's 0.

The Highlanders (1-1-1, 0-0 United East) return to action on Wednesday for a 7pm kick on home turf against Penn State-Schuylkill (1-0, 0-0 PSUAC).
